Raging Hormones.

Hey guys. This is my first post. Obviously. Never really done this whole blogging thing before, so I decided to give it a try. Hope you guys enjoy it. BTW , constructive criticism is allowed :)

So today, I just want to take out time to talk about we African teenagers. All teenagers love to have fun. Well, most teenagers. But this so called "fun" has reached a whole new level over the past few years. I just got off the phone with my sister and to say I was shocked would be the biggest understatement of the year.

First of all, I would like to say, being your true self is the best decision you can ever make. Not just for other people , but for yourself too. I mean , why deceive and lie to yourself over and over again just to fit someone's expectations or reach up to someone's standards ? There's no point in pretending to be someone else just for another person. There's no point in being a good church girl at home, and a party girl in the dead of the night. There's no point in acting like boys repulse you , if you're just going to spread your legs wide open for them when you think no one's watching.

Here's a true story. So, I left Nigeria about 2 weeks ago for school. When I came, there were a lot of Africans here. Nigerians mostly though. Naija no dey carry last. LOL. I was worried that I wasn't going to make friends 'cause most of them were older than me, but funny enough, I made friends way better than the ones I had back in Nigeria. Anyway, back to my story. As I got closer to these new friends, we got to share a lot of things about our lives. Our deepest fears, hobbies, man crush, woman crush, best singers, hottest actors, girly stuff in general. I was so shocked to find out that two of my friends were already mothers. I mean they weren't older than 18. And the most shocking part was, their baby daddies denied their asses and abandoned them. It's expected. All boys want to do is have fun. But when there's real shit to deal with, they become invisible. Running away from the very problem they brought upon themselves.

Now, in a university in Nigeria (name won't be mentioned) there are pictures going viral of a 4th year Law student who was found swimming in a pool of her own blood ,half dead, after committing  abortion. Stories are also going round of the three girls who were raped mercilessly after being drugged by their so called "boyfriends" during one of the girls' midnight birthday bash.

I'm not saying i'm a righteous goody-2-shoes. All i'm saying is, Know Your Limit. Everyone likes to party. Everyone likes to have fun. Everyone wants that special someone they can call their boyfriend or girlfriend. It's not bad to want these things. When it becomes a bad thing is when you over-step your boundaries, when you go over your limit. If you're still in secondary school and you like partying like it's 1980, then do so with a group of friends you trust not to get too high, or leave you all alone in a dark club where you become prey for all those high, shacked up guys whose only intention is to have a good time, willingly or unwillingly.  If you're in college and you think you're old enough to have sex, then be sensible enough to use protection.

The world is filled with good and bad. Good cannot exist without Bad. If you claim that you're ''in love'' , then date someone you trust well enough not to drug you and rape the shit out of you, simply because he or she wasn't able to control their raging hormones. No one wants to be a teen mom or dad. No one wants to bear the responsibility of being a parent at such a young age. Your life is ahead of you. It's not worth the risk. Stay safe, and learn to control your raging hormones.

  1. ''Dad, I'm 16! Treat me like an adult!!" In Africa..you know what comes next of course! But seriously though, our Nigerian youths are speedily embracing teenage and premarital sex. The big difference between Africans and the West on this subject matter? The mental approach to sex. Africans have for several decades advocated a staunch abstinence campaign while their western counterparts have legislated programmes in place for sexual education, imbibed into their curriculum from the get - go! Teenage pregnancy isn't as discriminated against in the West as it is back home. NGOs and non-profit organisations support teenage mothers there. We know what happens when papa Amaka or mama Gloria hears their daughter is pregnant! Families are more embracing in such situations over there, statistically speaking. Simply put, it's a difference of cultures. Sex is reserved for adults because of the enormous obligations tied to its outcomes. Teenagers are simply not responsible enough for the mental, physical or financial strain of dealing with sex. YOLO abi! My guy OYO oo! If you wan collect, make sure say you ready carry. Una well done o.

  3. April!.. tight!!.. I support d idea of protection. Abstinence isn't good o cause most atimes it leads to mental torture and can cause stupid Infatuation and thoughts e.g Masturbation. Not talking for myself o but the majority. Loooooool. . Again... NICE BLOG!!!!!!!
